From the Wild to “I Do” — How Wildlife Filmmaking Made Me a Better Wedding Photographer - Wedding Photography Essex

If you’d told me a decade ago that I’d be swapping camo gear and wildlife hides for wedding dresses and first dances, I probably would’ve laughed.

But here I am — and honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Wedding Couple Essex

Before I became a wedding photographer in Essex, London, Surrey and Hertfordshire (and more), I spent years as a wildlife filmmaker. That meant long days in unpredictable weather, sitting in silence, waiting for just the right moment. And oddly enough… it turns out those skills are exactly what make me the photographer I am today.

Let me explain...

You Can’t Fake a Fox — or a First Look (Wedding Photography Essex)

In wildlife, you don’t get do-overs. You don’t pose a deer or ask a bird to land again because you missed the shot. You wait, you observe, and you learn to anticipate.

It’s the same with weddings.

There are so many moments you only get once: a tear during the vows, the second your eyes meet at the altar, the full-body laugh during speeches. These aren’t things I plan or pose — they’re things I see coming.

Whether I’m photographing a wedding in London or in the middle of a field in Essex, that instinct — to watch, wait, and be ready — is at the heart of how I work.

Tiny Details. Massive Meaning.

One thing I learned fast while filming wildlife: it’s not always the big dramatic scenes that matter. It’s the tiny, blink-and-you-miss-it details.

Like the way a couple’s hands find each other under the table.Or a grandparent watching from the back of the aisle, heart in their eyes.Or sunlight catching the edge of a veil just right.

These little things? They make the story. And wherever I am photographing or filming - I look for them in every corner of the day.

Weddings Aren’t Posed – They’re Wild (In the Best Way)

Let’s be honest — weddings can be a bit chaotic. Timings shift. Dresses get muddy. Kids dance in the aisle. And that’s kind of the point, right?

What wildlife taught me is that beauty isn’t always polished. It’s not about perfect smiles or Pinterest poses. It’s about truth. And for me, the most powerful wedding photos are the ones where you can feel the moment just by looking at it.

So whether I’m in a grand London venue or a countryside barn in Essex, I shoot in a way that’s relaxed, creative, and totally grounded in the realness of your day.

I Photograph Love Stories All Over the South East

You’ll mostly find me photographing weddings in:

  • Essex – Countryside venues, wildflower fields, rustic barns — my home base and heartland.

  • London – From rooftop elopements to historic town halls, I love the buzz, the skyline, and the hidden corners.

  • Surrey – Think dreamy gardens, forest backdrops, and elegant estates.

  • Hertfordshire – With its rolling hills and timeless architecture, this county is full of magic at every turn.

  • And more close to home and across the UK!

No matter where you’re getting married, I’ll bring my filmmaker’s eye, my calm presence, and a genuine passion for capturing your day just as it felt. Wedding Photography Essex.

Let’s Tell Your Story

So yeah, I may have started with foxes and foggy forests. But now? I tell love stories. And every couple I photograph — whether they’re saying “I do” in Surrey, celebrating in Essex, or dancing under London lights — helps me keep doing what I love most: finding beauty in the wild, messy, unforgettable realness of life.
